"Strange old folk tales don't inevitably live forever. They need new energy to survive - and a fresh storytelling voice can uncover long-lost levels of meaning. David Phelps, connoisseur of Welsh Border Gothic, is a vital part of a tradition as old as time." - Phil Rickman
I am a writer with a specific interest in folk tales and local history. I returned to Herefordshire after a career in the civil service to research and tell stories from my native county. I am the author of four books, Herefordshire Folk Tales, Haunted Hereford, The Bloody History of Hereford and Worcestershire Folk Tales, all published by the History Press, and have contributed to several anthologies. All of these can be accessed here.
I now live on the Herefordshire/Worcestershire border with my partner, the storyteller Valerie Dean. When not engrossed in stories I am the secretary of the Herefordshire branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England.
