DOCTOR ATLANTIS

Doctor Atlantis    Had an hypothesis,

Thought that all people    Were basically good.

Tried to be good and kind and considerate    Just as he thought all people should.

Doctor Atlantis,    Funny old man.

Doctor Atlantis    Had an hypothesis.

Took it for walkies    Each day by the sea.

Enemy tribes    Came and attacked it,

Drove him away    And tore it to bits.

Doctor Atlantis    Came back to bury it.

Cried for it nightly    And prayed for its soul.

Buried it deep    Where no jackals could find it.

Buried it deep    In the sands of the Lethe

Where no eyes could see    And no terror tongues tell.

The enemy tribes    Came back to get it,

Back with a blessing   Bought from a bishop

For praising a psalm.   Dug up the body,

Stuck it together   With Bostick and horse bones,

Pushed in a nail and   Raised it up high.

People cried out at    This shock resurrection,

Ran to it quickly    And clung to its side.

Atlantis was stigmatized,    Exorcised, ostracized,

But Doctor Atlantis    Said not a word.

Doctor Atlantis    Funny old man.

Doctor Hypothesis    Had an Atlantis,

Thought it was somewhere    In Buttermere Lake.

People soon followed    And rushed out to find it,

With pick and with shovel,    Pulled out the plug

And the water ran out.

Doctor Atlantis    Had an hypothesis,

Thought that all people    Were basically good.

Tried to be good and kind and considerate    Just as he thought all people should.

Doctor Atlantis    Funny old man.
